IFC RECRUITMENT

Clemson Interfraternity Council

Phi Gamma Delta at Clemson University belongs to the Clemson Interfraternity Council, more commonly known as IFC. Each semester, Clemson IFC coordinates the formal recruitment process which requires any Clemson student wanting to join a fraternity to register for Formal Recruitment. Once a Potential New Member (PNM) is registered, they must attend a series of events as listed below.

IFC Orientation

All rushees wishing to go through IFC Formal Recruitment must attend the orientation which occurs on the first day of Smokers. The program is usually held in Tillman Auditorium and lasts for about an hour. The FSL Director will provide information about the Clemson Greek Life Office and each IFC chapter will have a representative give a short summary about their chapter.

Smokers

Smokers is a two-day event in which all IFC fraternities set their tent up on Bowman Field and will welcome rushees to food, music, and conversation with brothers. Rushees are permitted to go to as many tents as they would like and for however long as they like. Rushees should wear khaki, button up/collard shirt, and blazer.

First Round Invitational

Following smokers, each chapter will narrow down their potential new member list and email out invitations to the first round invitational. Usually each IFC Chapter will host their round downtown. Invitations will detail the time, location, and attire. Following this round, the chapter will once again conduct a voting process to narrow down the potential new member list and extend invitations via email for final round.

Final Round Invitational

At this point in the recruitment process, chapters now have a good idea of their potential pledge class. The final round provides a time for the chapter and rushees to create a specific interest list and communicate their intentions. Final round takes place at the chapter's housing. Following the final round, the chapter will conduct bid voting in which they extend official bids to rushees.

Bid Day

Potential New Members will pick up any bids they received from the Fraternity & Sorority Life Office at Norris Hall adjacent to Core Campus. Once bids are received, the rushee should contact the chapter in which he to confirm his acceptance. The rushee should fill out the Fraternity Bid Card and submit it to the FSL Office.

Open Bid Period

If any potential new member did not receive a bid or did not sign up for formal recruitment, then the open bid period allows chapters to extend a bid to these individuals.
